ATTRACTIONS IN THE AREA
 
Carrabaun House Is centrally located on the
Wild Atlantic Way making it an ideal base to explore the many attractions  in the area. The following are just a few to whet your appetite:
 

Croagh Patrick, Irelands Holy Mountain also known locally as the Reek. The national pilgrimage to the mountain takes place on the last Sunday in July annually where up to 20,000 pilgrims face the climb of 2100 ft.
 

Murrisk Abbey is located at the base of Croagh Patrick on the shore line in the village of Murrisk.
 
Base to visit 
Connemara National Park and the world famous Kylemore Abbey and its magnificient gardens. Ireland’s only fjord, Killary Harbour can also be viewed on one of the daily cruises.
 

National Museum of  Ireland - Country Life which houses the folklore of Ireland,  is well worth a visit with it’s many exhibits and visual displays. Just down the road you can call into The Foxford Wollen Mills and experience what it was like in the area all those years ago.
 
Historical 
Ballintubber Abbey and Ashford Castle, the home from home for many American Presidents and celebrities.
 
Achill Island is one hour's drive on the N59 going north and is attached to the mainland by a bridge where you can experience the Atlantic Drive, Keem bay and the deserted village.
 
The
Céide Fields, a Neolithic site dating back some 6,000 years, braves the elements of the broad Atlantic.
 
Clew Bay with it’s 365 islands is breathtaking. Visit the island once owned by John Lennon of the Beatles fame, a chance to see the seals and dolphins all on the Island Cruise. 90 minute duration.
 
Shore 
fishing in the renowned Erriff River, lake fishing on the famous Lough Mask and deep sea off Clare Island.
 

Golfing in Westport 18 hole golf course or Mulranny Links.
 

Horse riding on the shore of Clew Bay, paddock or trekking on land.
 

Indoor and outdoor leisure facilities.: Swimming pools and Wild West indoor facilities for children.

beaches, Bertra, Old Head, Carramore and Silver Strand. Miles and miles of beautiful  sandy beaches and breathtaking scenery. Carramore Beach is also known as a surfers paradice.
 

Westport House, the home of great experiences is located in the heart of Westport Town. A treasure trove of family fun .
 

The Great Western Greenway. For the cycling and walking enthusiast why not take to the longest off road track in Ireland 42 Km from Westport to Achill.
